GORGEOUS EARLY MORIAGE NIPPON HAND PAINTED TWISTED HANDLE FLORAL VASE
We have the privilege to offer you this absolutely gorgeous Moriage Nippon hand painted twisted handle floral vase.
Circa early 20th Century.
Measures 8 1/4″ high.
Features beautiful hand painted flowers and leaves with a floral design. Beautiful hues of pink, lime green and blue coloring. This vase is beautifully decorated with jewels and a floral design throughout and 2 gorgeous sculpted handles in the middle to the bottom of the bulbous area.
Moriage, pronounced More-ee-a-gay, is to pile up. It refers to liquid clay (slip) relief decoration. It was done by slip trailing or hand rolling and shaping clay on items of Nippon. Moriage may be applied before or after application. Often the designs are slightly enameled over, more so when outlining is needed, or if a lacy effect is desired. Most often the moriage designs are matted and the backgrounds of the wares on which they appear have variegated tones and muted hues. This lended more depth to the applied designs and visually it was quite effective. They are innumerable and varied. They include border trimmings, lacy designs, floral motifs, birds, animals and landscapes. This type of ornamentation has been used for over two hundred years and is quite predominate on export wares, produced since the Nippon era, 1891 – 1921, and through to World War II. Moriage pieces were often unmarked and were known for their highly stylized decorations and gilding.
This gorgeous vase is in wonderful condition, having no cracks, hairlines or repairs.
This is such a gorgeous and exquisite piece that would definitely be a great addition for any Nippon or Japanese collector.

In regard to furniture and accessories, we sell antique furniture and accessories. As most people know, these pieces become more beautiful with age because of movements and distress in the woods, some having restoration. Spindle turnings will not be uniform and swell unevenly with age. Wood tends to get stress fractures on support systems and where wide board construction is used. 85% of 18th Century veneers have had some restoration during their life. Pine secondary woods might fracture, making overlays and veneers have the same fracture lines. Old finishes might alligator, fade, fisheye or darken, depending on where the pieces were placed. All of these are desired by a true collector and gives it personality. Do not expect these early pieces to be like new. These pieces age gracefully just as we do, giving them unique personality. We do our best to describe and photograph all items thoroughly, but handle a quantity of pieces every day and might miss something. All these antique pieces are sold as is. It is your responsibility to view the photos, review the description, if you wish photos of a specific area on any piece we are happy to promptly submit them to you and ask any questions you may have before bidding. Selling items, untouched, usually directly from estates, we are not experts on clock works or any items with mechanical or moving parts. We know if they tick, run, move and are in tune with the quality of sound, but offer no guarantees on these items.
SHIPPING TERMS: Buyer prepays item, plus shipping, insurance and Delivery Confirmation on this item, when applicable.
All our shipping is done USPS Priority Mail, Insured Delivery Confirmation. International shipments are by Global Express. International and other shipments may run more, but always only what it costs us for shipping and packing materials. (Please note, shipments to Italy are by UPS only.)
Shipment will be made within 4 working days of receipt, unless there is an unusual circumstance.
All items are extremely well packed, which adds to the weight of the shipment.
No returns on any items, unless we have grossly mis-stated something in the listing. The cost of shipping back and forth on any item returned is the responsibility of the buyer.
PAYMENT TERMS: All payments must be received immediately after the close of the auction. On international shipments, it is the responsibility of the bidder to research any duty, taxes or other costs that might be incurred with this purchase in your country. All payments require immediate payment through PayPal. International shipments will be made through USPS Express Mail International unless your country shipments cannot be insured to the amount paid. If the shipment cannot be fully insured or is too large for shipping with USPS, the shipment will have to be made via FedEx or UPS. It is the buyers responsibility to research this insurance coverage and size requirements, as each country has different insurance and size limitations with USPS. You will have to make immediate payment through PayPal with the USPS quote; however, we will send you an adjusted bill after we have researched the best shipping solution for you.
